Yes, those three items don't seem to have much in common, unless you discover that there will be three separate shows this weekend at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center featuring these items.

The events are held on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, and each is a popular favorite at the facility.

With winter fast approaching, that means people are starting to think about snow, and snowmobiling. The Washington State Snowmobile Association Expo is a great place to learn more about these vehicles and accessories, and may be inspirational as well. If you are hankering for a snowmobile, you may end up coming home with a new one to enjoy this winter! There's a safety class, plus a swap meet, too. Open 10 am - 6 pm on Saturday, and 10 am - 3 pm on Sunday.

The 17th Annual Seattle Reptile Expo will feature a wide variety of vendors, displaying reptiles, and all of the products you need to keep your reptiles comfortable and safe. It's both fun and educational, so check it on on Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm, and on Sunday from 10 am - 4 pm in Expo Hall (enter through Gold Gate).

The Crossroads Doll & Teddy Bear Show has been popular over the years, and this show will attract a large attendance. The theme is "Think Pink" to recognize breast cancer awareness. They are also hosting a hat contest, so wear yours on Saturday. The have the ever-popular consigment table, "Can it be fixed" area, and much more. Drop by the Pavilion from 10 am - 4 pm on Saturday, and 10 am - 3 pm on Sunday.

Exciting Educational Exhibits at the Fair

There are many exhibits for kids to gain a fun learning experience at the Fair. Here are two different exhibits that offer exciting hands-on education.

The World of Music is an interactive, hands-on museum of music, housing over 300 culturally diverse instruments from six continents. Wander through the exhibit and gain an understanding of how music is a universal language. Get a glimpse of other cultures and history in an educational, yet fun environment. Kids can also enjoy drum circles throughout the day, rhythm workshops, a Blue Man Group Station, a kid’s band area, and an electronic instrument section, featuring the amazing Beamz Laser Music Player. Drum circles will be held daily at noon, 2, and 4 p.m. in the Paulhamus Plaza. The World of Music is open daily 11 a.m.– 7 p.m.

The Traveling Farm is a new, custom-built 48' semi offers a walk-through facility that features 14 museum-quality interactive exhibits to engage and educate young learners. Today, many children know woefully little about agriculture's role in their daily lives - where food comes from, what life on a farm is like, why it is important to have farms in our communities, etc. The Traveling Farm teaches students the role farming plays in our lives. There are farm-to table illustrations, teaching kids where food really comes from and then making healthy food choices. You and the family can visit the Traveling Farm near the Green Gate.

Both exhibits offer an educational experience for the whole family to learn more about the world around them, in a manner that is so fun you don’t even realize you are learning. Put each exhibit on your list to see at the Fair, hurry though there is only three days left!

While at the Fair this weekend stop by Barn J to see exotic animals from all corners of the world, which have made their way to the Puyallup Fair for the Animals of the World exhibit starting today! Take this opportunity to see and learn about animals you may have never seen or heard about before. This year features: Watusi cattle, fainting goats, Nigerian dwarf goats, camels, zebras, and many more. New to the exhibit this year are hedgehogs!

There are 17 different species of hedgehogs found in different parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. They use their quills to protect themselves from predators, using their two back muscles to pull the quills over uncovered body parts, such as their head, feet and belly. Hedgehogs are known as pest control being that they can eat up to 200 grams of insects a night!

Visit and learn more about the hedgehogs and other animals in the Barn J as a part of the Animals of the World exhibit.

Fiestas Patrias: Come Fiesta at the Fair

Join western Washington’s Latino community in celebrating their vibrant culture at Fiestas Patrias, featuring delectable authentic foods, action-packed dancers, and the latest Latino entertainers. The Grandstand will feature performances starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

New this year! Fiestas Patrias will end the day with a special concert featuring Intocable. This seven-member band’s song, “Prometi” is currently #6 on Billboard Latin Songs Chart, and #2 on the Billboard Mexican Regional Songs Chart. Intocable’s albums have sold millions of copies, and have also earned them countless awards. Opening for Intocable are Explosion Musical and Ely Quintero.

Fiestas Patrias features vendors selling a range of products, and artisans selling south-of-the-border clothing and jewelry in the most stunning colors. Food vendors will entice guests with authentic foods, including churros, tacos, ceviche, and pastries. Come and fiesta at the Puyallup Fair!

Trout Fishing, Snowshoeing, and Target Practice, All for Kids!

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting “Go Play Outside,” which features a free kids catch and release fishing pond. Children 12 years old and under, and who are least 39 inches tall can participate. Youth with disabilities are encouraged to join. The pond is open from noon to 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. each weekend of the Fair, September 9-11, September 16-18, and September 23-25.

The pond is located in the NW Outdoors Building. Fishing gear will be provided, and volunteers will be on hand to help. Children may catch and release one fish during each session and participate in only one session per day. Every child who casts a line will walk away with a “Go Play Outside” decal, bumper sticker, and litterbag.

While you won’t find snow at the Fair, you’ll find snowshoeing for kids with “faux” snow. Straw works well for kids to practice maneuvering with snowshoes. Kids can also practice their target shooting skills with a pellet gun and a target, with skilled marksmen helping, of course.

Roller Coaster Wedding

One lucky couple said “I Do” atop the Wooden Roller Coaster this morning.

The lucky couple was Sarah Petty, 33, and Robert Scherzer, 29, of Magnolia in Seattle, Wash. They met six years ago in New York where both were working at a Broadway production company. Last year, Scherzer proposed to Petty on her birthday in front of family and friends.

The Roller Coaster Wedding is a popular contest that has been held over the years sponsored by STAR 101.5 FM in Seattle. The wedding was broadcasted live this morning during the Kent and Alan Morning Show. Kent Phillips, an ordained minister and co-host of the show, officiated the ceremony as family and friends witnessed this once in a lifetime event.

The couple received wedding rings from Ben Bridge Jewelers. The groom and best man were suited head to toe in attire provided by The Men’s Warehouse in Puyallup. Maloney’s Florist and Gifts in Puyallup provided the floral arrangement. The wedding cake was made by Pioneer Bakery in Puyallup. A Fair Scone breakfast reception was also provided, courtesy of the Puyallup Fair.

The newlyweds will enjoy wedding night accommodations at the Holiday Inn Express in Puyallup. Then they will be whisked away for a Hawaiian-style romantic honeymoon from Alaska Airlines, where they will stay at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa.

2K11 YouthFest: A New Way to Do the Puyallup

Today at the Fair is 2k11YouthFest. This is the second annual youth music festival where the art and entertainment is geared toward teens. You’ll find activities happening throughout the Fair all day long.

Plus, check out the new Rockaraoke! Rockaraoke is taking karaoke to the next level with people selecting between 400 songs and then singing with a live band! Contestants can register before the contest at the Rockaraoke booth.

This is an energetic, action-packed day at one of our most popular stages, the Coca-Cola Stage, focusing on the specific interests of teens. There will be great sounding bands, like “To Paint the Sky”, and budding graffiti artist murals, plus an enter-to win a finished piece of art. Vendor booths featuring teen related products and services will also be featured. It’s a new way to experience the Puyallup Fair!

Senior Tuesday and Red Hat Event

Free activities and events were held today for young-at-heart seniors. Coffee and pastries were provided by Dillanos Coffee Roasters and Franz Family Bakeries at Aqua Rec’s Showplace Stage. After filling up, seniors enjoyed a presentation by Walgreens Pharmacist, Terri Adams-Kinkaid about seniors and prescription drugs. Seniors also enjoyed special coupon savings, and were eligible to receive a flu shot at the Walgreens booth.

Additionally, Red Hatters of Washington colored the Fair red and purple, in the annual Red Hatter Parade. Following the parade, Red Hat members kept the fun going with Hats Off! Bingo. Bingo winners were awarded Fisher Scone Mix in honor of their 100th Anniversary.

These events will take place again on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and are free, upon gate admission, for seniors only. No sign-up necessary.

Military Appreciation Days

In honor of our brave men and women in uniform, gate admission is FREE to all active, reserve, and retired military and National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans. All must present valid military ID at any Fair gate. Military Appreciation Day will take place on both Mondays of the Fair, September 12 and 19.

We salute our partners who support Military Appreciation Day, including Chevrolet, 94.1 KMPS, and KZOK 102.5 FM.

Hobby Hall has a wide array of collections on display, this year they are featuring military memorabilia from World War I to the Vietnam War with uniforms, medals, photos, collectibles, and much more. This is a great exhibit for everyone to enjoy!

"America Remembers" Tribute and Fireworks

Today marks the tenth anniversary of a day Americans will never forget.

The Puyallup Fair is taking time to remember those who sacrificed their lives to protect our country, and those lives that were lost on September 11, 2001.

The “America Remembers” tribute will be held from 6-8 p.m. on the Coca-Cola Stage, and is free with Fair gate admission. The Puyallup Seventh-Day Adventist Church has held this tribute at the Fair for several years, and will feature select members of the military and emergency responders again this year. This tribute will feature keynote speaker, Major General James M. Collins Jr., an experienced executive and opinion leader in the Army, business, and volunteer communities of the state and the nation.

As a remembrance of that tragic day, a fireworks spectacular will take place tonight after sundown at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The fireworks can be seen from most every vantage point at the Fair.

Giant Pumpkin Carving Results

The giant pumpkin weigh-off was held last night and the results were HUGE! Stan Pugh of Puyallup won first place, with his pumpkin weighing an enormous 927 lbs. The second place pumpkin weighed in at 892.5 lbs by Joel Holland of Sumner. Robin Halbert of Enumclaw had his pumpkin weighing in at 850.5 lbs placing him third.

The Jr. Giant Pumpkins division (children 18 and younger) also weighed in and had impressive weights. Emily and Annie Ulhmeyer of Olympia had a pumpkin weighing 456 lbs taking first place in the division. The second place pumpkin of Breana Barker weighed 430.5 lbs.

The first place winner of each division won $1 for every pound that the pumpkin weighed. The runners up in each division did not leave empty handed. In the adult division second place receives $500 and the third place receives $400. In the Jr. division second place wins $300 and third place wins $200.

Stop by the Pavilion and see giant pumpkin carvers at work! They will be carving away, weekend from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. under the Pavilion overhang.

Puyallup Pro Rodeo followed by Joe Nichols

Come on down to the Puyallup Fair and check out the Justin Boots Puyallup Pro Rodeo. You can watch the best cowboys and cowgirls compete in bull riding, bareback riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, and barrel racing. After the rodeo will be a performance by country music superstar Joe Nichols. 2011 Puyallup Fair Rodeo Parade and Cattle Drive

Kicking off the 2011 Puyallup Fair is the annual Puyallup Fair Western Rodeo Parade and Cattle Drive. Join us at Pioneer Park downtown for pre-parade music at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 9 along Meridian Street.

Cowboys herding 60 steers start off the festivities. Following the cattle is this year’s grand marshal, Brittney Henry, Miss Washington, and a Puyallup-area resident. A variety of equestrian drill teams, draft horse hitches, marching bands, great musical entertainment, royalty, and cowboys on horseback follow. The parade will also feature costume characters and Puyallup Fair free entertainment.

After the parade the excitement is carried right into the Fair gates with FREE admission until noon by bringing a canned food item for the Puyallup Food Bank.

The BIG Puyallup Pro Rodeo Weekend!

Puyallup Pro Rodeo Justin Boots Playoffs, Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts: Sept. 9-11. Join the Puyallup Fair in welcoming the top cowboys and cowgirls in the country when they compete in the Justin Boots Playoffs Rodeo Tour, September 9-11. Each of the 24 competitors in each event will be vying for a part of the $540,000+ purse, the largest in the Pacific Northwest. The Pro Rodeo will be held at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; with finals on Sunday at 1 p.m. Music superstar Joe Nichols will perform after the 6:30 p.m. rodeo on Friday night.

Put on your boots, chaps, and cowboy hats for the 6:30 p.m. rodeo on Saturday followed by Ricochet in concert and Dancin’ in the Dirt. This event is a separate ticket event ($20) and will be held in the Grandstand infield (21 years or older only). Dance the night away to Ricochet, sample some appetizers and beverages, and learn some roping tricks from cowboys.

Since the Sunday 1 p.m. Puyallup Finals are on September 11th, members of the military and emergency responders will be recognized at the rodeo in recognition of the 10th anniversary of this day in history. The Sunday rodeo includes two rodeos in one, with a traditional rodeo at first, followed by the finals, which features the top athletes from the past four performances. Each is vying to move on to the next round in Omaha, just one step from the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas this December.

The Puyallup Rodeo is something you should not miss. Being one of the top five rodeos in the country, this year’s Playoffs are sure to impress!

Puyallup Fair offers Express Bus to save parking hassles

Would you prefer to eliminate parking hassles when you go to the Fair? Would you like to take a little cat nap as you travel to the Puyallup Fair? Then we've got just what you want - The Fair Express Bus, operated by First Student Charter.

The Puyallup Fairoffers DAILY service from three locations, including South Hill Mall (near Macy's/Sears), Lakewood Towne Center (behind Barnes & Nobles/Target), and Tacoma Mall (north of Macy's).

Plus, FRIDAYS-SUNDAYS pick up the bus at 4th St. NW and River Road in Puyallup, adjacent to Kmart.

Busses run Sundays - Thursdays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. They run from 9:15 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Riders are dropped off and picked up at the Fair's Green Gate.

The cost is $4 round trip, or $3 one way, cash only. Children under the age of two are free when they sit on a rider's lap. Tickets must be purchased priot to boarding at any location.

There's nothing like a warm scone dripping with jam

Ah, as the Fair gets closer, the thought of warm scones dripping with honey butter and raspberry jam can fill your mind. Almost to the point of distraction!

If you haven't heard, this is the 100th anniversary, which is quite a feat for any company. But when they make sure a delicious product, it is no wonder that Fisher Scones have stayed around this long.

In case you haven't heard, today is when they start their contest. They know that their 100 millionth scone will be purchased sometime during the Puyallup Fair. But... when? It should be sometime between Sept. 9 at 10 am and Sept. 25 at 10 pm. It's up to you to guess the day and time. The closest guess will be deliciously yum - $1,000 and scone mix for a year. Now we're talking!

So, go to the Facebook page for Fisher Scones and make your guess. You could be living the good life, surrounded by scones for the next year if you guess right!

Collecting, handcrafting and so much more in Hobby Hall

It is amazing to discover how many people like to collect specific items. For some, it is Princess Di items, for others, anything that has a Coca-Cola logo on it. If you've been to the Puyallup Fair, chances are that you have wandered through Hobby Hall and discovered the interesting collections on display.

This year will be no exception, either. While the deadline has come and gone, the staff in Hobby Hall is wading through the applications, determining how much space is needed for each.

But the Hobby Hall is more than just unique collections. It featues handcraft entries, ranging from calligraphy to doll houses, stained glass to egg art. The great thing is that you can still register your handcraft items online if you'd like to participate. You can enter until Wednesday, August 24th at 10 p.m. Just check out the guidelines at thefair.com. Click on exhibit entries, then Hobby Hall.

Each year Hobby Hall features new crafts and collections to discover. They also provide railroad enthusiasts with they annual fix to see miniature train sets. Make sure that you drop by and get lost in these fascinating displays. You'll find out how others enjoy spending their spare time, too.

Cruise in to the Goodguys PNW Nationals Car Show this Weekend

If you haven't been to the Goodguys Pacific Northwest Nationals before, you've really missed out! But you are in luck, as the 24th annual event starts this weekend.

More than 2,500 classic cars, hot rods and customer cars will be coming to the Puyallup Fair & Events Center this Friday through Sunday, July 22-24th. They will have more than 200 manufacturer and commercial exhibits, an auto swap meet and cars for sale corral, Friday night drag races at Pacific Raceway's in Kent, a model car show, clowns and magicians for kids, and lots more.

They seem to schedule the event over a nice weekend, and this year will be no exception. It's a great place to enjoy the sun as you check out cars from days gone by, people watch, and generally have a great time. Whether you are a car lover, or just enjoy seeing classic autos, you will love the event. Over 70,000 are expected, so you'll be in good company.

America's Family Pet Expo is THE thing to do this weekend

America's Family Pet Expo this weekend, July 8-10 will be THE thing to do this weekend, whether you are coming alone, or a van load of kids. They will be featuring more than 1,000 different animals (as a reminder: leave yours at home so you can enjoy these!), from the regular family favorites to the unique. You'll learn how to care for animals, select the best animal for you, and determine the best products to use.

They are also offering 11 different entertainment attractions, too. A main attraction is "Jump! The Ultimate Dog Show." Trained dogs do stunts and acrobatics of all types. There's also the "Creepy Crawly Show" featuring snakes, spikders, scorpions and other not-so-normal family pets.

Country and Alternative Rock Added to Concert Lineup

While the Puyallup Fair lineup is almost complete, two new concerts went on sale this past weekend.

Country superstar Miranda Lambert is super hot right now. Her appearance at the CMA awards proved that. She's even hotter since she is now a couple with male country star, Blake Shelton.

Miranda will be appearing on Sept. 17th, the middle Saturday of the Puyallup Fair. She puts on an amazing show, with songs like "White Liar" and "Only Prettier."

Did you know that both of her parents are private investigators? She has carried on that tradition in a new way - as a private investigator of the heart!

Thursday, Sept. 22nd brings Counting Crows to the grandstand stage. They are a powerhouse group, having opened for Bob Dylan, and even substituted for Van Morrison one memorable night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

You'll hear the group performing "Mr. Jones" and "Accidently in Love" - plus lots more.

City Blast: Fireworks to light the sky on July 4th

We're all suckers for a great fireworks show, aren't we?

Well, this year, you don't just get fireworks, but you get a variety of family-friendly fun activities, thanks to Foursquare Church's City Blast.

They are sponsoring a 5K run, as well as a 10K run. The 5K is 3.1 miles of enjoyable terrain crisscrossing through the streets of downtown Puyallup, and ending at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center.

The 10K starts at 7:00 a.m. on July 4th, and the 5K at 7:30 a.m. Both are either run or walk (or a little of both if you are like lots of us!).

This is an all-day event. 3-on-3 basketball starts at 8 a.m., and the awards ceremony for the 5K and 10K is at 9 a.m. There's a church service at the Fair grandstand at 11 a.m.

Then, at noon festivities feature a Fun Zone for kids with bounce houses, face painting and balloon animals. The stage show includes live music, entertainment, The Massive Monkees (featured on MTV's Americas Best Dance Crew), and a celebration of our nation’s Armed Forces.

Come back at 8 pm, as the family fun zone will be open again, and there is a show on the grandstand stage, followed by fireworks, which are accompanied by music.

* First and foremost, we saw more guests attend than any other Spring Fair in our 21 year history! A total of 126,993 guests enjoyed the 3-1/2 day event.

* We saw the largest number of people on a Friday than any other Friday in Spring Fair history - 30,904.

* A total of 5,077 members of the military community enjoyed free gate admission on Friday's Military Appreciation Day, thanks to our media partner, FREEDOM 570 KVI.

* Our Sunday saw bigger crowds than any other Sunday before this one at Spring Fair, a total of 43,861 guests.

What a great way to show the brand new Puyallup Fair theme for 2010! Sand sculpturer, Russ Leno, carved the logo of the unicycle-riding cow in one of two sand sculptures he is creating at the Spring Fair in Puyallup. Make sure that you take a look at the sculpture as he continues to carve more accents both today and tomorrow at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center. Today's hours are 10 am - 10 pm, and Sunday, Sept. 18 hours are 10 am - 8 pm.

Today's the day!

Gate admission is free for kids (0-18 years) on Thursday, April 15 only, with a recommendation of bringing a non-perishable food item for the FISH Food Bank. Kids will love spending time at the Fair, and with no charge for gate admission, it's a deal worth taking advantage of for kids.

Barrels are filling with food for the food bank. Donations will be accepted all day, so bring your donation when you come down.

KMPS Showcase features FREE Justin Moore Concert on Friday Night

The ninth annual KMPS Showcase is slated for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Great American Stage, featuring up-and-coming country artist Justin Moore. It is going to be an amazing show!

His first song, “Small Town USA” quickly became a top 15 hit, and established him as one of 2009’s break-out country artists, garnering attention from People, The Washington Post and Billboard.

Doors to the concert open at 6:30 p.m., and seating is first come, first seated. Justin is sure to pack the house, so don’t miss this free concert.

Race over to watch the Swifty Swine Pig Races

No, you aren’t at the horse racing track, but watching prize-winning porkers rounding the bend to take first place honors – an Oreo cookie. Crowds really gather to watch the competition heats, cheering their favorite racing pig.

The Swifty Swine Pig Races are in a NEW location at the Spring Fair this year, in the south end, just beyond the Showplace Stage inside the Blue Gate. Remember, they are exclusive to the Spring Fair, and won't be here in September.

Fiesta Mexicana

If you haven’t seen the dancing horses at Fiesta Mexicana in the past, put it on your list for things to see at the Spring Fair in Puyallup (April 15-18) this year. Over the past few years it has become so popular that the event has moved this year to the Contest Arena (south of the Blue Gate entrance). Each of the several performances a day will continue to draw crowds to see horsemen and their talented horses dancing.

Each of the skilled riders and their horses are nationally known. Again this year, they are from Rancho Alegre, Rancho Garnica, and 3 Diamantes y Tres Amigos. The exquisite décor placed on the horses, and their agility as they perform is guaranteed to be a show stopper. Entertainment doesn’t stop there. The horses dance to the music of Banda Vagos Thursday – Saturday, and Mariachi Ayutla on Sunday.

Dora the Explorer will be meeting and greeting young children at Fiesta Mexicana. This celebrity character will shake hands and pose with kids for cherished pictures they will keep a long time. Children will also have the chance to make masks in the Kids Craft area from 1:00 – 7:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Authentic Mexican food will be prepared by Club Jalisco, with proceeds helping those in need in Jalisco, Mexico. Enjoy the very best from our friends to the South, thanks, too to LaGranD (99.3 FM) and KeBuena (1210 AM).

Man vs. Sand

There’s lots more than a pile of sand, some water and a bucket involved with the sand sculptures you’ll see throughout the Spring Fair in Puyallup!

Master sculptor Russ Leno will put his creative process to work, turning grains of sand into creative masterpieces. Fair guests can join in the fun, too, with a mound of sand ready and waiting for guests to create a work of art.

Another mound will be sculpted by Russ, alone, as he unveils the 2010 Puyallup Fair logo crafted out of sand. Truly amazing! Enjoy "Sand vs. Man" the entire Spring Fair, April 15-18, 2010.

Step On In to the Step Show at Spring Fair on Saturday Night

Step shows are one of the latest things to capture our attention. It is absolutely amazing the unison and talent each of these young groups possesses.
Step shows are more than rhythm, more than dancing, and more than music. Step shows are taking the country by storm, attracting junior and senior high students, as well as college students.
If you are wondering what stepping incorporates, it includes cheerleading, military, and drill team moves, plus the call-and response element. Stepping is high cultural history and high energy.
We’ll have 8 to 10 step teams performing at the Spring Fair on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m., vying for the $500 grand prize. One of the groups, pictured here, is Northside Youth Programs – Blue Diamonds Step Team. During intermission, Christian rapper, Blaze (also pictured) will perform.

Pipe Tapping - What the heck is that?

What the heck is pipe tapping? I had no idea, but when I heard that we had national winners from the area, I wanted to find out since it will be held at the Spring Fair on Saturday, April 17.
Pipe tapping is when skilled technical teams drill and tap a water-pressurized iron pipe, install a stop, cut and flare copper tubing with relative fittings to make connections at the main, a curb stop, and finally at a meter yoke. Whew!
They move at the speed of lightening. It requires speed, accuracy, agility and strength to get the job done in the fastest amount of time. Each team gets two attempts to complete the event within 30 minutes (that leaves me out!), and the shortest time gets recorded.
Last year, the number one spot in the American Water Works Association’s 2009 Conference went to Tacoma Water. Their team of four men beat all other competitors in the United States and Canada, coming in at an amazing time of one minute, 13 seconds.

Rock On! Christian Musicfest at Spring Fair

We’re bringing something new this year to the Spring Fair, the Rock On! Christian Musicfest. Nine worship teams and Christian bands will be performing at the grandstand stage on Friday, April 16. Everyone who attends can text in their favorite band for “People’s Choice Award.” A special guest is Chasing Jane (formerly of Three Pound Soul).

This is a separate ticketed event, but if you purchase in advance (http://www.thefair.com/), it is ONLY $10 – and that includes Spring Fair gate admission. What a deal!

It starts at 5:30 pm and concludes at 9 pm. This new and exciting event offers a spiritual message in an atmosphere of safe, family fun. Rock On!

Ring-tailed Lemurs and Albino Burmese Pythons, oh my!

Bixby’s Rainforest Rescue is a brand new feature at the Spring Fair this year. It is free, and found in the Pavilion, first floor. You’ll take a journey through the exotic plants, palm trees, and rhythmic jungle sounds, and be mesmerized by the interaction of more than 20 live exotic animals, from ring-tailed lemur to an albino Burmese python. It’s great for all ages, because you’ll learn about conservation and preservation of the rainforest. It’s all part of the 30-minute stage show that is both educational and entertaining. It’s free, so make sure you drop by all four days of the Spring Fair.

Twice the Demolition Derby Thrills at Spring Fair

Word has it that the Demolition Derby at Spring Fair in Puyallup is Twice as big as last year. Why? Because it will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 6 pm, and on Sunday, April 17 at 2 pm. And, there will be fireworks following the Saturday night derby that you can see far beyond just the Puyallup Fair & Events Center. Saturday's derby features the small cars, and Sunday is dedicated to the big cars. Derby fans love the different sizes, and can even by bundled tickets to both performances. This year they are reserved tickets, so it is worth buying them early at Ticketmaster or http://www.thefair.com/. The advance tix include Fair gate admission, making it a cool package. Besides, who can resist the flaming fun of "Controlled Chaos" at both derbies!

We've been getting totals back from various departments, providing insight to the amount of food guests consumed, how much toilet paper was used, how many rode Pierce Transit's "Fair Express" and other nifty little facts from the 2009 Puyallup Fair.

Let me tell you this: You don't want to know the calorie count on scones. Especially when a grand total of (drumroll, please...) 1,205,270 were purchased. Now that is a lot of scones - more than one for every person that attended. It is also a lot of calories. Thank heavens they vanish when the scones are put in the bags!

So you were wondering about toilet paper, weren't you? A total of 6,986,000 feet of TP was flushed. On the "save the environment" front (and parking hassles), 96,629 rode on Pierce Transit's busses from various park and ride locations. Kudos to all who took the bus!

Oktoberfest Brought Puyallup to Germany

Oktoberfest was a smashing success. In total, 281 kegs of grog was consumed, authentic singing and dancing was a highlight, and tempting German food filled empty stomachs. A huge hit was the wiener dog race, or should we say races! Every size, color and personality of wiener dog showed up to compete, and some complete with costumes. With an event like that, we can't wait for next year's Oktoberfest!

Habitat for Humanity House Nears Completion

The Puyallup Fair partnered with Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity again this year to build a house during the run of the Fair. The house has been built fast - completed in the 17-day Fair. Media partners included: STAR 101.5 FM, KOMO 4, KOMO News Radio, and KUNS Univision Television.

Cookies to Pies, and Spam to Salsa

The Home Arts Department features some of the most amazing recipe contests around. Some are local, and some have national sponsors, so the blue ribbon winner's recipe will move on to the national competition. If they win, they could walk away with big prizes.

The judges in the Puyallup Fair Apple Pie Contest ended up selecting Peggy Morris of Edgewood's "Apple-Maple Crunch Pie," and the recipe looks delicious. Karen Karsten of Buckley concocted "S'More Pops," You will be guaranteed to want s'more when you see the combination of Ghirardelli chocolate covering marshmallows.

Talk about a blue ribbon winner! Tamera Battle of Tacoma created "Raz-Black-Blue Pie" in the "Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts Pie Baking Championship." It's a mouthful to name that contest, but if that mouthful includes a bite of that berry pie with flakey crust, that's totally fine!

The top three places in the Salsa Showdown went to male cooks. Steve Marshell of Olympia blended flavors to create "Watermelon Cucumber Salsa with Mint."

You've got to drop by the Home Arts Department on the second floor of the Pavilion to see the amazing recipes, and get ideas for your next creative culinary adventure.

The Deadliest Catch Catches Huge Crowds

Johnathan Hillstrand, the gutsy captain on Discovery Channel’s popular series, Deadliest Catch, is making an appearance at the Puyallup Fair, along with his fishing partner and son, Scott. They were here Friday and Saturday, and are back today (Sunday, 9/20) until 9 p.m.

Meet and greets are available, complete with a chance to snap a photo of them and get their photograph. Time Bandit merchandise is also available for sale, and to be autographed. They are located at the intesection of Showplace Way and Grand Avenue.

Last night they participated in a fundraising event for the Puyallup Fair Foundation. The “Deadliest Dinner” had a packed house, with attendees winning raffle items, including autographed merchandise. The Deadliest Catch fans had a great time!

Angel, a sow at the Puyallup Fair's Pig Palace was busy tonight. In total, she delivered 12 live and squirming bundles of joy. Erica Luxem of Edgewood was tending to Angel as she gave birth to her litter – a first-time experience for Erica, who handled it like a pro. Now you have another "must see" when you "do the Puyallup," now through Sept. 27, 2009!

Starry Country Nights

While Julianne Hough danced her way into the hearts of many people in the Pacific Northwest, she is realizing her dream by singing her way into their hearts as well. Prior to tonight's concerts, she briefly met with radio station winners, as well as Puyallup Fair CEO Kent Hojem and his wife Carolyn (shown). She is excited to perform at the Puyallup Fair, and will open the evening of grandstand music. Following Julianne, Rodney Atkins will take the stage, singing #1 hit songs like "If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil even Knows)," and "Watching You." Talk about a great night of country music!

Giant Pumpkin Record Broken at Friday Night's Competition

If you haven't experienced the giant pumpkin contest at the Puyallup Fair, then put it on your list for next year. It is always held the first night of the Fair at 5:30 pm, and the pumpkins are, well, enormous!

Stan Pugh from Puyallup, Washington broke his own previous Puyallup Fair record (1,050 pound pumpkin) with a new Puyallup Fair record of 1,136.5 pounds!

Opening Friday Breaks Attendance Record

Blue sky weather was a definite bonus to the wide range of opening day activities that created the largest opening Friday in the Puyallup Fair's history. When the tally was complete, 86,332 people came through the turnstiles.The parade through downtown Puyallup traditionally kicks on the Fair, and has done so since 2000. This year, some unruly steer decided to visit a convenience store. Thanks to the store's electric eye, the door open for them. They stepped in for a minute, and decided that the merchandise wasn't what they liked. Quick thinking cowboys quickly herded them back, and the crowd loved the diversion!With a weekend of great weather in store, and the top 24 cowboys in each event competing in the Justin Boots Playoffs of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour, there will be lots to enjoy. After all, it is the last hurrah to Summer!

Puyallup Rodeo Debuts Ultimate After-Rodeo Party with Rocky Mountain Oysters

Summer has arrived, and that means that the Puyallup Fair will be here before we know it! This year, the Fair starts on Friday, September 11th (it always starts the Friday after Labor Dayand runs for 17 days), and it looks to be the very best ever. In fact, it will be The BIG Fantastic!

We're not alone in saying that, either. We recently received word from Evening Magazine's "Best in the Northwest" that the Puyallup Fair was selected the BEST AMUSEMENT PARK.

When it comes to Party Animals, Seattle Magazine's "Best of 2008" selected the Puyallup Fair as the best place to be. How can we go wrong with animals of every shape, size, color - and more - to greet our guests? Mutton Bustin' was a particular hit with Seattle Magazine. It was pictured in full color, with a little girl wearing a sweet outfit complete with dainty pink and white shoes and socks -- and riding a sheep! Whether you know the children participating or not, you'll still love watching the competition. Everyone who enters is a winner, whether they can take that big step to hug a handful of fluff and hold on tight, or just get close to doing so.
